Wrath of the Lich King: Beta forums and website now available, invites out in Europe

A series of events appears to have been set in motion following the end of Alpha testing for World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK) expansion. For one, we’ve confirmed that WotLK’s official beta forums are now open for public viewing. It was previously accessible only to members of of the beta test community.

Nethaera appeared on the forums recently to further note that Blizzard has lifted their NDA for both the expansion’s Alpha and Beta tests. In line with this news, WotLK’s official beta site has also been opened and should provide the soon-to-be testers with the information they’ll need to sign in.

All this given, it could mean that WotLK’s beta invites are almost here, right? According to a member of the deathknight.info forums, Europe’s invitations are already being sent out. The forum post was deleted, although another bit of evidence strongly hints that WotLK beta is indeed closing in - screenshots of the expansion’s login screen and downloader (via WotLK Wiki):

Lastly, Nethaera visited the WotLK forums to post the beta patch notes. We’ve posted part of it here to give you an idea of what’s arriving, though you’ll want to read the rest of it at the official forums. Lest we forget, those interested in getting a head start on their frozen delights dose of Northrend will want to opt into the open beta ASAP. Enjoy the read!

NPD US software sales topped by Sims 2 IKEA expansion

NPD US software sales topped by Sims 2 IKEA expansion - Image 1

EA and Maxis are probably patting each other on the back for pushing out The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff Expansion to retail, for the latest content addition to The Sims 2 has been named first place in the last month’s retail race. But it appears that Blizzard has something else to boast: five games out of the top ten are all their games.

It would appear that right after the game division announced Diablo III, a huge Diablo fever ran rampant. We guess it was a fever so high, that the company’s recompilation of Diablo I and Diablo II - the Diablo Battle Chest - has beat the sales of the newer World of Warcraft and sat proudly at number two.

Spore Creature Creator is also still staying strong, besting the sales of even The Sims 2 Double Deluxe. The top ten games from NPD Group’s software sales ending July 5 are as follows:

  1. The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff Expansion Pack
  2. Diablo Battle Chest
  3. Spore Creature Creator
  4. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
  5. World of Warcraft: Battle Chest
  6. World of Warcraft
  7. Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
  8. World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Expansion Pack
  9. The Sims 2 Free Time Expansion Pack
  10. Warcraft III Battle Chest

World of Warcraft: Anetheron’s bugged Inferno gets hotfixed

World of Warcraft: Anetheron's bugged Inferno gets hotfixed - Image 1Over at the Battle for Mount Hyjal instance, one trick that Anetheron has up his sleeve the keep your bout against him unpredictable is his ability to randomly summon an infernal. While this could spell doom for those who lower their guard, it does make for battle that’ll keep you on your toes.

That was, at least, until a recent bug. Players in the World of Warcraft forums reported that even after Anetheron cast his Inferno drop animation and the flaming meteor fell, the Infernal that was supposed to drop in and pound the players into a charred, mangled heap never appeared.

Bornakk visited the WoW forums recently to indicate that Blizzard has already caught wind of this problem, and that it’s already been hotfxed. Anetheron should now be summoning his flaming minions normally the next time you run the raid. That’s all for now - visit again in case we catch wind of any further hot fixes that may get announced in the near future.
